The Prager-Sirota debate on Sept. 22

Last night I went to see the debate between Dennis Prager and liberal journalist David Sirota on the topic "What's Better for America: Liberal or Conservative Ideas". It was held in the auditorium at South High School in Denver. The place was packed. I think there were approximately 1500 people there. The audience definitely contained more Prager fans since Dennis got more applause, but there were a number of applause lines for Sirota as well. The debate was run very well. It kept to time and was very entertaining.

Watching the debate I was really struck by how much of a stereotypical Liberal (he kept on referring to himself as a "Progressive"... I don't think there's anything literally progressive about the ideas that he espoused) Sirota was. Sirota seemed pretty angry most of the time. He kept on talking about how Liberals live in reality and Conservatives don't. Are you kidding me??? He just seemed fixated on attacking the wealthy- saying that Republicans have created a corporate socialist country benefitting companies and fat cats. If promoting capitalism rather than socialism can be interpreted that way, then guilty as charged, but really the way he kept on going on about how corporations are favored at the expense of the little guy was ridiculous.

In a bizarro world way, in part of the debate devoted to how discourse occurs in America, Sirota went on about how mean and uncivil Republicans are. My jaw almost dropped to the floor with some of the twisted examples he cited (saying for example that Trent Lott was pining for the days of segregation in his misinterpretation of the comment made at Strom Thurmond's birthday party... hey Sirota, maybe you should check out the Dem's "dean of the Senate" former KKK member Robert Byrd).

I could go on, but I guess I was really struck by how fundamentally different the Liberal world view is from the Conservative one. It seems there really are two Americas.
