The danger of a massive solar flare

Interesting story here about what could happen if the Sun were to burp out a coronal mass ejection or massive solar flare that would hit the Earth and it's magnetic field. It would be the same as the explosion of a nuclear bomb in the atmosphere- the equivalent of a huge electromagnetic pulse that would fry electronic components. Scary stuff and probably something that will happen sooner or later.
