my take on the Obama-McCain debate
The Obama-McCain "foreign policy" debate was pretty interesting. During the first part I thought Obama was doing pretty well. When the discussion actually did get to foreign policy though I thought McCain really started to rack up points. I thought McCain succeeded in really getting under Obama's skin. He kept on saying things like "Senator Obama doesn't understand" and when the camera was on Obama, you could tell he was getting really irked by that. Obama just seemed petulant and like a little kid at times. McCain was telling a story about an Iraq war wife giving him a bracelet and as soon as Obama got to talk, Obama was quick to say "I've got a bracelet too!!!". What a little kid.
I think Obama's naivete really seemed to show up at times. I don't know if the general public would pick up on it though. For example, after McCain got done talking about trying to assemble a league of democracies to confront Iran, Obama tried to say "well we need to get the Russians and the Chinese on-board too"... Doofus! The Russians have been helping the Iranians build their nuclear facilities! What incentive do they have to box in the Iranians?
McCain got in a few good zingers against Obama. One that I especially liked was where in the middle of some discussion McCain said something like "I don't even have my own presidential seal yet!"- an obvious reference to the absurd Obama seal that the pompous Obama has.
I got the impression when McCain was talking about the Ukraine and dropping the names of leaders and ports that Obama didn't know half of what McCain was even talking about.
It was kind of crazy to see Obama come out and say he was for things that he has previously said he was against. In talking about Russia, Obama was talking about increasing domestic oil production- this from the guy who is against actually drilling for oil. I think he was also taking exception to McCain saying he was against nuclear power- well he's said that he is against it. Yeesh.
By and large I thought that McCain did better, but I could see how the Obama-noids could come away not disappointed also.
