back to school
We had our Front Range Toastmasters meeting last night at the Armadillo restaurant in Northglenn. I was the Toastmaster for the evening and I had a "back to school" theme for the meeting. One thing that I ranted about at one point was recounting what I had heard earlier in the day on the Laura Ingraham show. Laura had had a guest on talking about how textbook content had been hijacked by the politically correct/moral equivalency crowd. So last night I said something to the effect of: the textbooks go to great length to talk about how great a world religion Islam is, but they fail to point out that it was initially spread at the point of the sword and that today, in the most hard-core islamic nations, women are second class citizens. The textbooks also seem to go to great lengths to point out that several of our founding fathers were slave owners. However, these same textbooks, when talking about the "great" Aztec civilization that was tragically destroyed by the evil Spaniards, fail to point out that the Aztecs had this quaint little practice of TEARING THE BEATING HEARTS OUT OF THE LIVING BODIES of their enemies. I guess that's just a "detail"... wouldn't want to confuse the kiddies with historical trivia, now would we?
