Sometimes the bad guys win
The news has come out this week that the "leaker" who told Robert Novak that Valerie Plame was with the CIA was then undersecretary of State Richard Armitage. The mainstream media has said just about zippo about this, although I understand that the NY Times has written it up today (see here). Armitage is a guy who has been critical of the Bush administration since leaving office and apparently everybody now realizes that when he let loose that bit of information to Novak it wasn't as "revenge" on her husband Joe Wilson. So, basically, the special prosecutor, Patrick Fitzgerald has been wasting taxpayer money for 3 years (or however long it has been). This just infuriates me. It also irks me incredibly that basically this lie (that the Bush administration leaked Plame's identity as an attack on Wilson) that has been perpetuated by the left will still live on in the memories of most of the uninformed. That's why I said in the title that sometimes the bad guys win because basically the lefties achieved their objective in smearing Bush, Rove, et al. ... and all on the basis of a lie. I'll never forget being at a Halloween party last year and one of the guys there wearing a Patrick Fitzgerald mask (his hero of the moment). I wonder if guys like that will realize what a waster of taxpayer money Fitzgerald has been and that really no crimes were ever commited (I think poor Lewis Libby probably just made an honest flub). I suppose they probably won't.
