On to the asteroids and Mars instead of the Moon?

There's an interesting article from Aviation Week and Space Technology (online article here) describing an expanded version of a revised "vision for space exploration" that was put forward last February. The new plan would shift the emphasis from going back to the Moon to going to the Lagrange points and to near earth asteroids and on to Mars. NASA didn't make any changes when the plan was first put forward, but with a new administration coming in... who knows? I doubt if the space program is even on Obama's "radar screen" right now, but when he does consider it, he might want to put his own stamp on the program and this revised plan might be just the type of thing that he might turn to. We'll see...
