Obama's non-republican character

There is an interesting essay here by Jay Cost describing how Obama has been perhaps our least republican (small "r", e.g., republican as it relates to a republic) president. As noted by Cost, Obama consistently elevates himself above the people which is counter to republican values. Likewise, the monstrosities of school kids praising Obama is terribly non-republican.

Mysticism in supposed sci fi movies

Interesting post here pointing out mystical aspects of supposed science fiction movies. I don't know anything about the "9" movie but "2012" I have heard of and it just sounds ridiculous.

Angela Merkel strengthens her position in German elections

It looks like Angela Merkel can boot out the liberal Social Democrats and build a solid center right coalition with the Free Democrats (story here). That's good news! I'm sure Barry Obama was pretty p.o.'ed that the right of center parties did so well. Good news for the Germans though. They might actually get some tax relief.

update on the water/hydrated minerals on the Moon

Here is a little more detailed article on the discovery of water/hydrated minerals on the lunar surface... neat stuff!

Why the Dems really lost control of Congress in 1994

Anne Coulter has a column that addresses the ridiculous notion that I have heard many libs in the media (including prominent news folk like George Stephanopoulis) say. Namely that the reason they lost control of the House in 1994 was because they didn't pass Hillary-care. It just boggles my mind when I hear them say that. Are they really that obtuse? The reason the American people voted them out in '94 was not because they didn't pass health care reform but because the health care reform that they tried to pass would have led to a government takeover of that sector of the economy. Unfortunately, if they really believe that is why they lost the House in '94 that might lead them to ramrod through the travesty of Obama-care.

Water on the Moon!!!

"Unambiguous" evidence of water, albeit in very low abundance, on the lunar surface... very likely more, and more concentrated in shadowed craters at the lunar poles.

Obama taking a page from the playbook of Emperor Augustus?

There is really nothing new under the Sun. The news that Obama operatives were trying to get NEA funded artists to put out material that would support the Obama agenda harkens back to Emperor Augustus when he was still the Triumvir Octavian when Octavian was vying with Marc Antony for control of the Roman Republic. I was just listening to a History of Rome podcast about this time period and apparently Octavian's "publicist" (for want of a better term) Maecenas enlisted Roman poets and artists (such as the author of the Aeneid, Virgil) to produce material in support of Octavian. I'm not saying that Obama is trying to become Emperor, but you can draw your own conclusions...

The UK Telegraph says Obama is gambling with European security

Good editorial from the UK Telegraph that puts Obama's decision to abandon a long-range missile defense system into context. Obama is putting Europe and, quite possibly the U.S. too, at the mercy of the mullahs.

Obama to leave Europe and U.S. defenseless against Iran's missiles

This is just inexcusable. Apparently Obama is planning to completely scrap our planned missile defense system with interceptors to have been based in Poland and the Czech Republic. I wonder if this is an example of Russia saying "jump" and Obama asking "how high?" or just his absurd liberal ideas that missile defense is somehow "wrong" or won't work. Either way it leaves Europe defenseless against Iranian medium-range missiles and would leave us in peril against long range missiles that they're trying to develop.

More discussion on propellant depots as being a heavy lift launch vehicle alternative

Rand Simberg has a piece up on the Popular Mechanics web site about how the use of propellant depots, in association with existing launch systems, could be used in place of heavy lift launch vehicles for "deep space" (i.e., beyond low earth orbit) space exploration.

Good editorial by George Will on Obama's credibility gap

George Will has a good summary of the many contradictory statements made by Barack Obama.

Interesting discussion of alternative Lunar exploration architectures

Rand Simberg has some comments, and quotes some others, on possible alternative lunar exploration architectures that wouldn't require a heavy lift launcher such as the Ares 5. It sounds like the kind of depot based architecture that is discussed would be more sustainable over the long term.

Grass roots outrage at 9/12 Tea Party gatherings and delusions of the Left

I went to a 9/12 rally at the Colorado State Capital today. It was great to see so many people out there exercising their right to speak out against the outrages being perpetrated by Obama and the Democrat Congress. One of the speakers said that the Founding Fathers would be proud of the people speaking out as they were at today's gathering. I agree. Early on there was a counter-protest where a bunch of wackos wearing costumes were bicycling by on Lincoln Ave. They looked like freaks. I wonder if they even knew how ridiculous they looked.

I'm watching the Fox Report now and they had a "debate" on the Tea Party rallies between GOP congressman Trent Franks and some Democrat strategist Jehmu Greene. That Greene woman was either delusional or just had no qualms about putting forth outrageous Democrat talking points. She had the gall to say that many of the 9/12 protesters were bussed in(?!?). Then went on to say that Barack Obama was willing to work with Republicans on health care reform... yeah, he's willing to work with them if they kowtow to his point of view. If they put forward any Conservative ideas they're shown the door pronto.

Thinking about how patently absurd the things Jehmu Greene was saying and how ridiculous those counter-protesters at the Capital were today made me think of a column by Patrick Buchanan from earlier in the week where he asked if America is falling apart. He might have a point. It really does seem like there are two different species almost... Right and Left don't seem to have much common ground these days.

ACORN Fires More Officials

ACORN Fires More Officials

CNN covers the ACORN prostitution aid scandal (but does a lot of hedging)

I was in the gym today and on one of the TVs was CNN Headline News and I was surprised to see them covering the ACORN scandal involving the undercover couple that posed as a pimp and a prostitute and got help from ACORN officials on how to set up a brothel (!). Now they covered it, but I couldn't believe how much they hedged on the story. They described the guy who set it up as being a "Conservative activist", which I think he is, but when was the last time you heard them describe a liberal journalist as being "liberal"? They even went so far as to suggest that the video may have been partially faked. How outrageous.

Underage prostitution for dummies

They've got a hilarious graphic here in association with the ACORN sting video. Can you believe that only Fox News is reporting on this?

Sarah Palin in the WSJ on Obamacare

Sarah Palin has an excellent opinion piece in the Wall St. Journal on the bogus promises made by Pres. Obama regarding health care "reform". I'm glad to see Sarah Palin doing this type of thing- writing opinion pieces. This is the type of thing she needs to be doing to build a reputation beyond the stereotypes that people have of her.

the liberal bias of Yahoo news

I don't know if I've blogged about it before, but it is a constant source of irritation to me how biased the headlines, if not the actual stories, are that appear on the main Yahoo page under "news". I mean, good grief, today they have "At 8 months, Obama is seen as a bridge to country's next era" (actual article cited here). WTF? What next era is that? The era of socialism? of fascist dictatorship? I mean come on, does it get any more biased than that?

sending people to asteroids instead of the Moon?

There's a space.com article about a proposal to use two Orion spacecraft to visit a near-Earth asteroid. It sounds like a good idea to me. We should be working at longer duration spaceflight, such as would be required by an asteroid mission, to get ready for going to Mars.
