Obama removing Petraeus as a potential rival?

I can't help but wonder if a major part of Obama's strategy in getting Gen. Petraeus to take over from Gen. McChrystal is to make sure that Petraeus doesn't run against him in 2012. Petraeus has said he isn't interested in running for President, but a lot of people, including myself, have thought that he would be a great candidate. If he's over there in Afghanistan though, 1) he can't organize a presidential run and 2) the Afghan situation is such a mess that even Petraeus might not be able to fix it so that being in charge there will burnish his reputation.

Obama administration "misled public" on oil drilling ban... imagine that!

The judge who ruled today that the Obama administration couldn't stop deepwater drilling indefinitely said also that the administration "misled the public" by misrepresenting the opinions of experts on the matter. The Obama administration misleading the public? Who could imagine such a thing!

Thomas Sowell warns of impending tyranny

Thomas Sowell has a good column pointing out how the President's forcing BP to pony up $20 Billion to a fund was completely unconstitutional and, indeed, indicative of something a tyrant would do. He cites other trends that also follow that general proposition.

On that same idea, today Hugh Hewitt was talking on his radio show about a story that the Obama administration is prepared to issue a fiat that companies have to be prepared to grant family leave to gay couples. Regardless of whether that is a good thing for companies to do, the President just does not have that authority. We had better check this President's power ASAP or it might just be too late.

Falcon 9 success!

The SpaceX Falcon 9 had a successful launch yesterday- story and video here. The Falcon 9 could provide lower cost launch services and is a primary player to deliver cargo and hopefully crew to the International Space Station. It's good news. I hope they get the support they need to build the Dragon crew vehicle.

the nuclear option

Daniel Foster at the Corner has a good post on how we could use a nuclear bomb to seal off the oil leak in the Gulf. Hey, it would work. I think it is time to do it.
