Kathleen Parker on diminishing the role of the Christian conservatives in the GOP
Kathleen Parker has a column where she calls for diminishing the role (not kicking them out as I've heard some talk show hosts say) of Christian conservatives in the GOP. I've got to say that I agree with her. As a scientist, I'm tremendously embarrassed when at a GOP presidential debate the moderator asks who doesn't believe in evolution and several candidates raise their hands. This type of ignorance about science is really unacceptable in 2008. This doesn't mean that religion can't play a role in the public square. Certainly it can. However, it shouldn't be, as Parker says, be worn as an armband by the party.
